Bratislava parking tips
Parking is a main question in most big cities, but the regulations and conditions are different everywhere. Let’s see the situation in Bratislava.
Chargeable street parking applies in the city centre of Bratislava between 08.00-16.00 hours on weekdays, while the weekends are free. In the downtown, in most of the streets it is obligatory to purchase tickets.
There are two possibilities:
1. Buying parking ticket in automat on street. Minimum parking time is 30 minutes /0,50 Eur and longer. 0,10 Eur = 6 minutes. Payment is possible only by coins, not possible credit card or other cash.
2. Mobilparking by SMS. It is necessery send a text BA A4 BL123XX (evidence number of car) for 1,80 EUR (90 minutes) or BA A8 BL123XX for 8 EUR (480 min) to the phone number 2200. If you need parking for 3 hours it is necessary to send 2 text messages. They will send back one with information with starting time of parking and time of expiration. System will also send a message 10 minutes before expiration. It is possible to prolong if needed by a further SMS.
Several parking spaces are reserved; these are marked with a white cross on the asphalt or with a blue P-Reserve road sign, sometimes protected by inbuilt iron-columns. You can park on free parking places, however residential parking places are alsi crossed, where parking is not allowed for visitors.
Garages and lots
If you arrive in Bratislava by car, you will find plenty of underground and surface parking lots in the city. Although parking on the side of the street is allowed, (you must keep 1,5 m free on path) keep in mind that violating the parking rules you may find a boot mounted on your vehicle or it may be towed away by authorities. Visitors to the city are therefore advised to use one of the parking lots. Parking garages charge fees for every day.
Cars can be towed if they disturb the traffic and the owner is not available. These vehicles are transported to the area called Pri seci 1, Bratislava Petržalka part of the city. Payment for towind is 99 EUR + penalty set by police for breaking rules.
If someone wants to get the car back he or she should contact the police or number written on Wheel clamp or document left by police. (the overall city police number 159 , the towed cars registration number is 02/45643817), but be prepared for a hefty fine and the repurchase price.
The cars are available between 7:30 and 22.
