Bratislava is one of the most beautiful and historically significant cities. Let’s see some of the places, which have to be visited at least once in a lifetime.
The Castle
The newly renovated castle is one of the major attractions of Bratislava. The monumental palace with four towers can be reached through four gates: the late Gothic Corvine gate, the Vienna gate, the Crown Tower gate and the Victory gate. It is worth checking the knight’s hall, the chapel and the restored rooms. Under the castle there is beautiful parkland where we can take long walks or chat on the benches.
Hlavna Námestie
Bratislava's main square with its beautiful townhouses is a real tourist attraction, but the most striking building is the Gothic-Renaissance old town hall, where a medieval torture chamber can be viewed, but recommended only for the ones with strong nerves. Next to this square there is the Franciscan Square (Františkánská námestie) with large, shady trees, the Franciscan monastery and a beautiful baroque Jesuit church.
St. Martin's Cathedral
This is the most striking architectural masterpiece in Bratislava.It has a huge golden royal crown on the top which reminds visitors, that between 1563-1835 Hungarian kings and queens were crowned here. Every year a medieval carnival takes place here with clowns, knights, comedians, fire eaters, crafts and period dressed young people dancing and singing to entertain the tourists.
Michael Street
There is no city without pedestrian street, in Bratislava this is called Michael Street ( Michalska Ulica ). At the beginning the Michael gate can be seen, which sets the whole mood of the nostalgic little street. Near the gate there are the church of Klarissa nuns and the 34 feet high, Jagiellonian neo-Gothic tower, which is the major landmark.
