This year, for the 5th time, Vienna has been chosen to the most livable city on the world according to the latest global survey from the consulting firm Mercer.
The survey examined several aspects, including the political, social and economic situation, medical care, training and learning opportunities, infrastructure capabilities, as well as public transport, electricity and water supplies. As is turned out, Vienna got the highest rates among the 223 metropolis, leaving behind capitals like Zürich, Auckland and even Paris or Barcelona.

Two main factors determine a city’s position in Mercer’s Cost of Living rankings:
- The relative strength of the relevant currency against the US dollar in the 12 months between ranking (March 2011 to March 2012 in this case);
- Price movements over the 12 month-period compared to those in New York City as the base.
On the list of the world’s most expensive cities for expatriate employees, Vienna is on the very good 48th place among 50 cities.
Besides the economic point of views the culture of Vienna is unique. The whole city is full off monuments, historical sights and museums. Concerts and other art performances are regularly held during the year, which makes this city more attractive.
